Svendborg at Gylletanken 2001: With Lokum "Rock Mod Indhegning Af Offentlige Parker" ("Rock Against Putting Fences Around Public Parks") |
The last couple of years a public park called Krøyers Have in Svendborg has been used to have a little outdoor festival with all kinds of small bands playing. Free admission and a down to earth attitude, with folk / deathmetal / punk / blues / kindergarten / pop-whatever bands playing. A cool and relaxing way to spend a couple of days in the middle of Svendborg organized by grassroots. But the evil city-council wanted more: they wanted to profile "their" city as a cultural mecca by hiring danish Top40 acts from outoftown, having fences built around the park, charging ridicolous prices and turning fun into business. (And yeah, they didn´t even ask us to play!!!) We had a quick brainstorm, copied a handful of flyers, found some equipment and set up at a parkinglot 50 meters from the festival. Fuck stupid comercial cockrock-traditions ! This was our first show with Lasse on the vocals, and the megaphone actually lasted some time. The first 5track demo was recorded with it too. And we did these open air, spontanieous shows a bunch of times afterwards. A really cool way of playing in front of shocked people who didn´t think anything like this could ever happen. |

Once again an attack on the commercialization of music was organized, and (Das ?) Incontrollados was there. For some reason two demented schoolteachers from Jutland had won the Eurovision Song Contest the year before, and the whole country suddenly had a new reason to justify their petty patriotism. This meant that the 2001 contest was to be held in Denmark. What the musicbusiness representatives and penguin-clad posers didn´t know, was that there actually is real music with a real message to be found under their candycoated industrial products. Not to brag, but I´m shure our contest was much more fun than theirs...The concert had to end before time because the generator broke down under last band Slave´s "soundcheck" (surprising?) and continue in the parkinglot behind Ungdomshuset. 6 bands, an open van, 200 punx, and a power generator + an unknown amount of cops and reporters : |

We had been talking a while about going on a one-day tour across the country on New Years Eve. Nothing was really planned, and it was actually more or less a joke. But a few days before New Years Eve, we decided to set things up just for the fun of it. We called around, and was able to book four places to play in one night. Or at least we found out where other people had parties we could gatecrash. We rented the only car possible to rent in Denmark on New Years Eve -a semi open van very suitable as a cattletransport- kicked our power-generator, instruments and blankets in the back and started out in Svendborg City. It was early in the evening and the streets were absolutely empty, but we´re used to playing to people who don´t want us to play for them. Nobody really witnessed this groundbreaking concert except for a us, a few friends and the cops who kicked us out of the city before Lokum ever got to play. Next stop was a couple of hundred kilometers away, in Holbæk somewhere on Sjælland. And the back of the car was a fucking stupid place to be in the middle of the winter. Anyway, we found Holbæk and arrived at a party in Ungdommens hus. After getting a bit warm inside, we did the gig outside in the crossing of Kasernevej . This time the response was better, and again some grumpy musichater came to us and complained about the noise, and turned off the power in the middle of a song. No noise on New Years Eve? After the show we went to Roskilde, to a square in the middle of the city were we thought 100´s of drunk teenagers and old men with cigars would be. But they were somewhere else. Only a few locals took their time time shake their head and roll their eyes at us, but I remember it as a good show anyway. After we finished packing our gear and as driving out from the square the cops came, but the noisy outlaws was already on their way to København. Fuck them. We wouldn´t have played for them anyway. In København, the place we were going to play was at this party in a basement in Frederiksberg. First indoor show after three outdoors. And it was really good too. The room was not much more than 2.5 x 3.5 meters, but the clock was around midnight and it was really intense. The Young Wasteners had their debut here, and I think Hul started playing too but I´m not shure. All day we had hoped to be able to go to Dronning Louises Bridge on Nørrebro to be the soundtrack to the riots that probably would break out if a van with 2 punkbands playing rolled in. But we had to cancel that because of the generator breaking down. Plus both singers´ throats were too fucked up to do anything. But it was a cool way to celebrate New Years Eve instead of just the usual drink-watchfireworks-puke-passout. The whole thing was captured on video and if we can, we´ll put it on the net, along with the musicvideo(!) to "Forbruger # 666" + the concert at the City Hall office and the Vomit Video material and whatever else we´ve got. Maybe we´ll do another oneday tour. If you have a party somewhere in Denmark/Gernany/Sweden on New Years Eve, give us a call and we´ll set up something. |

Re-squatting Bryghuset winter 2000, Svendborg In 1998 we all were into squatting and running Bryghuset, a house in Svendborg. We all put a lot of work and energy into that house and after it was evicted and other houses were squatted, we still thought this house was something special. In early 2000 we decided to re-open the still empty Bryghus just to have a 2-day show. First night Incontrollados played until the power broke down. Then we played again until the power broke down again. Good gig though, and a really nostalgic exprience to be back at Bryghuset. The day after was the "Horror-Day" with spooky surfers LOKUM supposed to play in the evening. But the cops came in the middle of "Frankenstein´s Bride" and evicted the SPAND-squatters. But SquatBrigade SPAND will never surrender, and LOKUM is too good to cancel, even if there is no place to play. We put the drums, amps and a powergenerator in two shoppingcarts, and went on a 4-stop tour across Svendborg downtown. "Gylletanken" -a parkinglot, in front of Sct. Nikolaj Church, at the doorsteps of Vor Frue Church, and in front of Børsen -a popular partybar. You can´t stop rock n´ roll!! The video will be put up here someday. Maybe. Live at the City Hall offices Svendborg summer 2001 To those who doesn´t know, Svendborg have had an active squattingscene the last couple of years. Lots of houses have been squatted by SPAND and evicted, and lots of activities have been going on. This summer people from all over Denmark gathered in Svendborg to help the locals achieve their goal: a 100% volunteer-run autonomous youthhouse. The project was called BZ-BY 2001 / SQUAT-CITY 2001, and gave birth to the new squats like Radiatoren on Møllergade, Den Selvdøde Kat on Lerchesvej, Bryghuset for the 3rd time, and Ravnemøllevej 14. They were all evicted, and as a reaction to that SPAND invaded the City Hall´s shiny offices and set up between desks, photocopiers and angry suits. ET SKRIDT AF GANGEN started out with their á capella power violenceattack, and Incontrollados followed. The employees and guards tried to stop the show a few times, but it is hard to pull out the plug with a pit of skanking squatters blocking the way. When the show was over, we left the offices with a bunch of confused people behind, and went to Krøyers Park on the other side of the road. Here LOKUM did a free open air appearance. But the cops had called for reinforcements, and loads of pigs started driving through the area. Just before the last song the cops pulled them self together and tried to convince LOKUM to stop playing, but they´re not the first so they´re used to it. After they confiscated the drumsticks and pulled the plug, ET SKRIDT AF GANGEN started playing (shouting) again and people were happy and the pigs were pissed. A deal was made, and LOKUM was given back their drumsticks and was allowed to play their last song. EN HEL, EN HALV, HALVANDEN, SPANDEN !!! |
